Supporting families who experience pregnancy and infant loss – Brisbane

Pregnancy is often seen as a time for positive emotions and hopeful expectations of a new baby, and a new life as parents. However, it is estimated that each year over 55,000 Australian couples will experience a perinatal death, which equates to 1 in 4 pregnancies ending in a miscarriage, and approximately 6 babies stillborn each day.

This one-day workshop offers you an understanding of the impact that perinatal and infant loss has on parents and will assist you in developing a compassionate and best practice approach in how you can support them within your practice. It will build your confidence to know how to walk alongside families in some of the most hardest times they may have faced so far, equipping you with skills and resources in what to say and where to guide families for ongoing support.

As part of this workshop we will explore across the spectrum of pregnancy loss from infertility & miscarriage, coming to terms with an unexpected diagnosis and decision making, stillbirth and neonatal death and discuss how to provide both practical and psychological care for parents and their families, including strategies to support parents, grandparents, children as well as supporting each other as caregivers.
